resist的基本意思是“反抗,抵抗”,指拒絕接受,并設法阻止其發生,也指與其戰斗以防被擊敗,往往強調以武力為手段,引申還可以作“未受損害,耐得住”解。

resist還可表示從主觀意識出發的意志“不屈服,忍住”,這時,后面常跟動名詞,并多用于否定句中,意思是“不禁,忍不住”。
