intend多用作及物動詞。其后可接名詞、動名詞、動詞不定式或由that引導的從句作賓語,也可接由“to be/as+ n. ”或動詞不定式充當補足語的復合賓語。有時還可以接雙賓語,其間接賓語可轉化為介詞for的賓語。可用于被動結構。

- 這四者都有“想要”或“打算”的意思。其區別是:
- 1.mean比intend單純,沒有intend專心于某事的含義。
- 2.be going to表示在說話之前已經作出決定; 而be thinking of則表示正在“想”或“打算”,還沒有最后決定。
- 3.在口語中,一般不用intend to,而用be going to或be thinking of的形式來表達。
- 4.mean還有“意味”的意思,而另三個詞(組)則沒有此義。

- design指為達到某種特定的目的而周密地、精心地“計劃,籌劃”,它偏重于計劃的目的性、周密性和細致性; intend指在心中已有確定的目標或計劃,作“盤算,意想”解,比plan的語氣強,如:
- I intended to write to you, but I didn't get time to do so.我本打算寫信給你,但是我沒有時間。
- plan在這三個詞中是最普通最常用的詞,表示“計劃,想要做”,它不像design那樣含有精心周密地“策劃”的意思,而與want的意思接近,例如:
