- 這三個詞的共同意思是“拒絕”。其區別是:
- 1.從語氣上來說, refuse是最普通的用詞,一般指直接地拒絕,語氣不那么委婉。decline語氣較委婉,相當于漢語的“謝絕”。例如:
- He declined my invitation because of a previous appointment.因另有約會在先,他謝絕了我的邀請。
- reject語氣強烈,用于正式場合,如外交和商業條款之類,表示當面明確地拒絕所給、所請、所提議之事,另外還有拋棄或剔除不適當的或不喜歡的東西的意味。例如:
- He rejected my friendly advice upon further consideration.他經過進一步的考慮,明確地拒絕了我友好的建議。
- 2.從搭配上來說,這三個詞都可接名詞(如an offer)作賓語,但invitation只能與refer, decline搭配; suggestion只能與reject, decline搭配; permission只能與refuse搭配; plan只能與reject搭配。另外refuse和decline都可接動詞不定式作賓語,而reject則不可以。例如:
- He refused〔declined〕 to join us in the game.他拒絕與我們一起游戲。
- refuse,decline,reject,repel,deny
